Under federal regulations, every business phone number used to send U.S. text messages must be registered with The Campaign Registry — even if you're just texting customers one-on-one rather than running marketing campaigns.

Carriers require this registration to verify that messages come from legitimate businesses, not spammers or scammers. Since carrier enforcement began, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and other major carriers block 100% of unregistered business text traffic — messages from unregistered numbers simply won't reach your customers.

Registration doesn't affect your ability to receive texts; unregistered numbers can still receive messages without issue. It's outbound delivery that's blocked.

This requirement applies to messages sent to U.S. phone numbers. If your business sends text messages only between Canadian numbers, Campaign Registry registration generally isn't required. Canadian businesses texting U.S. customers, however, must still register — the rule is based on where the message is delivered, not where it's sent from.
